Jerri Green, Candidate for Governor, Spoke at September 28, LCDP Event

The Tennessee Governor's race is heating up, and Democratic superstars are jumping into the contest.  ONE TOUGH CANDIDATE, Jerri Green, visited Loudon County on Sunday, September 28 Ms. Green is a candidate for the Democratic Governor Nomination to run against Marsha Blackburn.  Ms. Green is an attorney, educator, and mother of three, currently serving in Memphis.

Prior to living in Memphis, she had resided in Knoxville and Nashville.  The details of her visit are currently being confirmed and will be announced in the near future.

Jerri talked about these issues and answered questions:

  • Real Support for Working Families
Paid family leave. Affordable child care. A real living wage. Because families deserve more than survival—they deserve stability and dignity.

  • Strong Public Schools
Fully funded classrooms. Respected teachers. Honest education—not censorship and political interference.

  • Health Care Access
A government that expands Medicaid, especially in rural Tennessee, and respect a woman's decisions regarding her own health.

  • Common-Sense Laws
Background checks. Red flag laws. Gun locks. Because no parent should fear sending their child to school.

  • A Future Worth Fighting For
Clean air, safe water, and climate-smart policies that protect our land—and our children.

LCDP listened to David Miller who is running for Tennessee State Senate Seat 5. He says:

I am a retired educator with over 35 years of experience in a variety of settings. I was hired by the NY State Department of Corrections to develop a program to foster greater understanding between staff members and inmates.  I was later the first to teach women in a co-ed prison in NY. I then started a peer counseling drug education program in a suburb of Buffalo, where I trained high schoolers to work with elementary school students.

I moved to Georgia in 1981 and taught severely emotionally disturbed high school students for many years.  I became Chair of the Special Education Department and coached baseball and Special Olympics for many years. I changed school districts and initiated a program to serve English as a Second Language (ESL) learners. I was itinerant and taught K-12 for over 10 years until I retired.  I still volunteer to teach a beginner adult ESL class in Oak Ridge.

Unions have always been an important part of my life.  I have been President of 3 locals and served on the Governing Board of the Georgia Association of Educators. I have been active on the national level of the National Education Association (NEA), with collective bargaining rights as my focus.

Why You Should Attend a Protest

rally.jpg

Attending a protest is about much more than simply showing up—it is about being part of something larger than yourself. Protests have always been a powerful force for change, and history shows us that when people gather in numbers, their voices cannot be ignored.

One of the most uplifting parts of a protest is the feeling of connection. You are surrounded by people who share your values, your concerns, and your hopes for a better future. It is inspiring to see strangers come together with a common purpose, reminding us that we are not alone in what we believe.

The 3.5% theory demonstrates that when just a small fraction of the population—around 3.5%—actively engages in nonviolent protest, real and lasting change is possible. By attending, you help build that critical momentum. Everybody in the crowd matters. Every voice adds to the chorus calling for justice and progress.

Protests are also a chance to meet like-minded people, to make connections, and to strengthen bonds within your community. Sometimes we attend not only for ourselves, but because a spouse, a friend, or a family member needs someone to stand with them. Showing up for each other is just as important as showing up for the cause.

If you have ever wondered what difference one person can make, remember this: movements are made up of individuals who decided to step forward. By joining a protest, you become part of a living, breathing example of hope and determination. Together, we amplify our voices and move closer to the change we seek.
